Just Another Day Episode #1 Aug 23, 2012

We watch Shaytards and BFvsGF each day and it has inspired me to make our own family vlogs.  The new vlogs will focus on our family's (including extended family and friends) interactions over a course of a day, while These Kids episodes will focus on a specific activity the boys do together.

In this first episode, we go to the movies, dispute on what to eat for lunch, eat at a Mexican restaurant, buy books and shoes, and swim at the lake.

My Writing Sucks!

I didn't spend nearly as much time this summer living in the moment or exploring with my kids. Instead, majority of my time was in bed with my laptop, dealing with my inner turmoil.

Because of that, getting closer to my goal of becoming a better writer and vegan chef/coach was put on the back burner.

I haven't written my 1,000 words since early July. The bottom line is, my writing sucks and has for a long time. Even though I have a lot of ideas, I find myself not blogging on my main blog as often. When it comes to conveying those ideas on paper....my words don't come out as fluid, conversational, or well-researched as I would like. I have issues with sentence structure, punctuation, style, grammar.

Maybe I was a bit ambitious with the 1,00 words per day; considering that before that I didn't write more than a blog post or short entries in my journal. For now, I will lower my standard to 500 words per day.

While laying in the sand with the kids, I started reading a sample of Grammatically Correct since it was listed for only $1.99 (regularly priced at $9.99).

After reading this passage I immediately downloaded the book to my Kindle . Damn you, Amazon for making spending money too easy.

I know the process will be slow but I'm willing to do the work to get better.

Random Thoughts

*I fall asleep in the movie theaters more than I stay awake-it must be the darkness

*I'm having fun exploring homemade beauty products-just the basics like daily facial cleansers and exfoliators

*My husband being away for the last 6 months is starting to weigh on me

*I used color to polish my toenails (I prefer clear) and Alvin told me my toes look weird.  He stays shading my girlie attempts. *shaking my head*

*I've been using more almond & coconut milk for my cooking opposed to soy-I like the improvement

*I need to go to Youtube rehab-it's my cable

* -in my Nate Dogg voice- "Hey, hey hey, sip tea every day"

Being Intentional With Travel

"On paper, on purpose" -Dave Ramsey

I booked a flight to Denver, CO this morning.  I was suppose to book for Blogalicious in Vegas but I talked myself out of it. I couldn't justify paying $400 for the flight and $500 for a hotel, when I've been to Vegas three times already.

Yes, I have travel issues.

My budget is tight and there's too much of the world to see, so repeating trips isn't ideal for me.

Several months ago, I wrote a list of 5 cities/states I couldn't wait to visit and decided to make at least 3 of them happen within the next year.

So far, I've been to Boston, next month is CO, and we're shooting for New Orleans by the end of the year.

I really feel like writing it down helped manifest into getting it done.

Also, the cheaper flight and no lodging expense (my sisters recently moved there) sealed the deal. :-)

What's on your travel list for the next year?

Music In My Ears: Nina Simone-Ain't Got No...I've Got Life

I just read Dream Hampton's Ebony magazine interview with Simone's daughter discussing the casting for Simone's biopic, colorism, and protecting her mother's legacy.
Quotes from the interview...
"I love Zoe Saldana’s work. I’ve seen some of her movies more than once and really enjoy what she brings to the screen. As an actress I respect her process, but I also know that there are many actresses out there, known or not, who would be great as my mother. The one actress that I’ve had in my heart for a very long time, whose work I’m familiar with already, is Kimberly Elise."

"If any of us tried to take the story of Bing Crosby or, Dean Martin, or Frank Sinatra, or Elvis Presley and turn it into something that was a tall tale based on something that never happened, I doubt that we'd get very far."
